Every Process Has a Beginning
Why I’m starting this newsletter (and what you can expect)
I’ve been thinking about starting a newsletter for years and am so glad that I finally mustered up the courage to set aside time to make this happen.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Earl Abrahms. I was born and raised in Bonteheuwel, South Africa. I spent a significant nine-year chapter of my life in Johannesburg (which I’ll elaborate on in a future post about my love for the city) before moving to Doha, Qatar, about 5 months ago.
I’m a creative professional with over 12 years of experience in the creative sector, having run my own creative studio and worked as a documentary filmmaker, extensively documenting artists in the South African arts landscape. Personally, I love rollerblading and creating abstract photographic images, and I tend to spend a lot of time thinking about starting a creative community to bring together people who are both trying to rediscover themselves creatively and those who are further along in their creative process.
The title of this newsletter is “In Process”. The title stems from my personal curiosity about process and what it means to be in process, as well as from the extensive time I spent working in the art sector with institutions and artists, archiving and listening to them discuss their work and practice, as well as the various processes involved in creating their work.
This newsletter serves as a space for me to share my personal work, as well as the artists and institutions I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with. It will also be a space to share ideas that I’m exploring as a creative who is constantly learning about how to embrace process.
Thank you for taking the time to read, and I look forward to having you on this journey with me.
